Experience the thrill of wakeboarding!!Wakeboarding is a relatively new board sport, created from a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques. As in water skiing, the rider is towed behind a boat, or a cable skiing setup, but typically at slower speeds (18 - 24mph) An experienced and knowledgeable instructor will explain the basic principles of wakeboarding on land and you will watch a brief video introducing you to the skills you will practice on the water. |

Your instructor will then take you on a practice session in Chaloklum Bay aboard our speedboat. Whether you are wanting to learn to wakeboard or just want to practice your skills, our instructors are available to help. More information on wakeboarding....This adventure sport was Invented by two surfers, almost simultaneously, in 1985. Jimmy Redmon of Texas and Tony Finn of San Diego both made themselves small surfboards, designed to be towed behind a boat . For more information on the history of wakeboarding, click here. Instead of skis, the rider wears a single board with stationary non-release bindings for each foot, standing sideways as on a snowboard or skateboard. The boards are shorter in length than a snowboard (typically 130 - 147cm) and wider (up to 45cm) as well as being convex (tips 15 - 25cm) rather than concave as a snowboard. And they float. Steering the board by a combination of direction and cutting the edges into the water, the rider can move outside of the wake, then cut rapidly in toward the wake, hitting it and launching themselves into the air. Your instructor will then take you on a practice session in Chaloklum Bay aboard our speedboat. Whether you are wanting to learn to waterski or just want to practice your skills, our instructors are available to help. More information on Waterskiing...This sport and recreational activity was invented in Lake City, Minnesota in 1922 by Ralph Samuelson and is popular in many countries around the world where appropriate conditions exist - an expanse of water unaffected by wave motion. Rivers, lakes, and sheltered bays are all popular for water skiing. For more information on the history of waterskiing, click here. Recreational skiers usually learn to ski with a ski on each foot, but as they improve usually progress to using a single ski, placing the other foot into another binding behind the main one. Beginners on two skis are usually pulled along at around 25-35 kilometres per hour, whereas more advanced social skiers travel at between 40 and 55 kilometers per hour - once confidence is gained it is actually easier to travel faster than at slower speeds because of the greater lift and stability. Some even go without skis at all in a feat called "barefoot skiing " Within the confines of being pulled along by the boat, skiers can control their direction by balancing their weight on different sides of their ski. This is used to zip back and forth behind the boat. (www.en.wikipedia.org) For waterskiing tips, click here. More information on Kayaking....Kayaks were originally developed by the Inuitt, the indigenous peoples living in the Arctic regions of North America and Greenland. The word "kayak" means "man's boat". These first kayaks were constructed as a wooden frame covered by an animal skin such as seal skin. Kayaks were originally built by the man who would use them. The man would measure the frame for the kayak based on his forearm. This measurement style confounded early explorers who tried to duplicate the kayak because each kayak was a little different. Kayaks were used to hunt on the open waters of the Arctic Ocean. (source: www.wikipedia.com) For more information on kayaking, click here. |

An experienced guide will explain the basic principles of snorkeling, explain local marine life, and provide any additional information. Snorkeling gives you a chance to passively view the beautiful and amazing underwater world!!! More information on Snorkeling...Snorkeling is the practice of swimming at the surface of a body of water equipped with a mask and a short tube called a snorkel. It is a popular recreational activity, particularly at tropical resort destinations. Since snorkeling requires calm water (where there are no waves to splash into the snorkel), it is typically done in protected areas, such as lagoons or bays. Snorkeling requires no special training, only the ability to swim and to breathe through the snorkel. However, it can be helpful to know how to expel water from the snorkel following a dive below the surface, which may allow water to enter the snorkel. The mask and snorkel are similar to those used in scuba diving, but since they are not subjected to the pressures of deep water, they can be more lightweight and comfortable. The primary attraction of snorkeling is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural setting. On Koh Phangan, this includes a variety of coral reefs and their inhabitants, such as fish, starfish, sea urchins, stingrays, and turtles. For more information on snorkeling, click here. |

More information on Scuba Diving... Scuba diving is the use of independent breathing equipment to stay underwater for long periods for recreational diving and professional diving. The word 'scuba' is an acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus, although it is grammatically acceptable to refer to 'scuba equipment' or 'scuba apparatus' in conversation. The two types of scuba equipment are the "open-circuit" Aqua-lung and the "closed-circuit" rebreather. In 1942-43 Jacques-Yves Cousteau (a French naval lieutenant) and Emile Gagnan (an engineer for Air Liquide, a Parisian natural gas company) work together to redesign a car regulator that will automatically provide compressed air to a diver on his slightest intake of breath. (Prior to this date, all self-contained apparatus still in use supplied air continuously, or had to be manually turned on and off. For unclear reasons, the 19th century demand regulator of Rouquayrol-Denayrouse had long been abandoned.) Cousteau and Gagnan attach their new demand valve regulator to hoses, a mouthpiece and a pair of compressed air tanks. In January 1943 Cousteau tests the unit in the cold Marne River outside Paris. After a modification (placing the intake and exhaust valves at the same level), they patent the Aqua Lung. (source: http://scuba.rinkes.nl/) |
